After Vaccines

Vaccination

How to take care of your pet

after vaccinations

and what to be aware of:

  • Just like children, you may find that your pet is very sleepy and sore at the injection site(s).
  • Also know that in some cases your pet may be a little nauseated to the point ofeven vomiting. If this is the case, take him/her out for a short walk to get some fresh air. However, if the problem continues please contact us.
  • Your pet may not want to eat for the first couple of hours or even that night. If loss of appetite continues please don't be alarmed. Offer chicken broth or canned food and continue this until your pet's appetite comes back. Also make sure that he/she is getting plenty of water. Please know that it is very important that your pet does not stop eating or drinking water.
  • If he/she seems depressed, you may offer Children's Tylenol. The dosage is one DROP (please note that it is not a dropper, but a drop) per pound.
  • If a lump of any sort starts to occur where the vaccine(s) were given, again do not be alarmed. By placing a hot compress on the lump it will help with the swelling. However, if the problem does not seem like it is getting better do not hesitate to call us.

We here at Family Pet Hospital care about the well being of your pet. We are here for you if you have any concerns.
