Dr. Gerald R. Skees, Veterinarian and Owner

Since graduating from Colorado State University, Dr. Skees has been a member of the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) for over thirty years. He is a member of the GVMA (Georgia Veterinary Medical Association) as well as several other state associations.

Dr. Skees has worked in multi-doctor practices; however, he has also worked in very rural areas as the sole practitioner. Consequently, he was forced to do all the emergency medicine and surgery, in addition to the more specialized aspects of veterinary medicine, such as neurology, dermatology, and ophthalmology. Performing surgeries like diaphragmatic hernia repair, splenectomies, and enucleations. All of which are routinely referred to specialists.

Having worked in a rural - economically stressed community - Dr. Skees was forced to learn how to treat and help animals without a lot of expensive diagnostic procedures being performed. Current clients appreciate this attribute because it usually saves them money on some of the more routine visits to the veterinary hospital.

Even though Dr. Skees has been practicing many years, he prides himself on staying abreast with the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. He acquires at least twice the number of hours of continuing education required by all the state boards of which he is a member, attending both local seminars and national meetings. He subscribes to several journals that provide the latest developments in the field of veterinary medicine, as well as articles from colleagues with interesting cases.

Visiting with clients who have brought their pets to Dr. Skees, as well as being in the exam room as he examines your pet, he will give you the impression that he loves his job.
